James Edgar ;Johnnie; Johnson Air Vice-Marshal This plaque commemorates the life of 'Johnnie' Johnson CB, CBE, DSO and two Bars, DFC and Bar, DL, who grew up in the Borough of Melton Mowbray. He was the tops scoring RAF fighter pilot of the Second World War and was accredited with the shooting down of 38 enemy aircraft in more than 700 missions. DL = deputy Lieutenant (he was appointed such for Leicestershire in 1967).
