About the memorial:
The Heighington Village Association worked hard over recent years to provide a stone war memorial for the village (no such stone memorial having previously existed). Working with others, including the Parish Council, and following public subscription the war memorial was finally installed in 2015. The war memorial sits within a dedicated Memorial Garden at the base of the tower of St. Thomas' Chapel of Ease, which is grade II listed. The Memorial Garden was planted with roses, yew and rosemary as a result of public subscription. A bench was provided by the Parish Council.
The memorial garden was installed in 2014, and used as part of the Remembrance Service 11-11-14. The memorial was installed late summer of 2015, and used for the Remembrance Service 8th and 11th November, and recently by the British Legion to commemorate the First Day of the Somme.
