About the memorial: Obelisk of Aberdeen granite, 6 feet hign. Unveiled Sundady 30 November 1919. The monument is the work of Mr. C. Warrick, of Long Sutton, and bears the following inscription on the front, nicely lettered in gold The memorial has been erected on a piece of land at the corner of the road to Holbeach, the site which has been very generously given by Mr. J. F. Wilkinson, being the most imposing and central position in the village.

“To the Glory of God, and in grateful remembrance of the men who gave their lives in the service of God and their Country, in the Great War, 1914-18. This monument was erected by the inhabitants of the parish of Holbeach St. John’s. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man should lay down his life for his Friends.”
