About the memorial: The original memorial was across the river but with the development of the Porth By-pass a dedicated square with marble blocks for seats, and a new monument for later wars was built around the main U shaped monument in 2007. A limestone memorial comprising a three sided recess, with the monument in the centre. The walls are decorated with swags in relief, and on the rear wall there are inscriptions in Welsh on the left, and English on the right, to the men of Porth and District. On the front piers there are wreaths in relief. The cenotaph has long two sided inscription panel listing names of the fallen. Above and between two moulded cornices is a relief cross within a wreath. Three side pillars were added later with polished black granite plaques.
