About the memorial: Aberdeen Press and Journal - Thursday 07 July 1949 - Lord Alness to Unveil War Memorial LORD ALNESS, a distinguished "old boy," will unveil the memorial to the 194 former pupils of Aberdeen Grammar School who died in the recent war. The ceremony will take place in the school hall on Thursday, October 27. The new memorial will incorporate the 1914-18 memorial with 243 names, which was also unvelied by Lord Alness. Invitations are being sent to the next-of-kin of those whose names appear on the tablets and to subscribers to the Former Pupils' Club Memorial Schemes Fund. A copy of the roll of honour, which includes a notice and photograph of each of those killed on active service or who died through enemy action, will be sent to the next-of-kin.
