About the memorial: Situated in Holydyke, Barton upon Humber, above the door of the present Public Library (Providence House) is a stone memorial about 500mm by about 1500mm dedicated to Lt. Henry Sharpley. According to newspaper cuttings Providence House was bought and used as an orphanage in memory of Lt Sharpley. The orphanage was closed in 1945 and the property eventually purchased by the council. It is now used as a library and adult education centre. The stone work of the memorial is deteriorating and leads have fallen out, North Lincolnshire Council are due to commence renovation work during 2005.
