About the memorial: Red brick built pier with white cross on top, with plaques on the front face, erected at the crash site, unveiled April 10th 2004, the 60th anniversary of the crash. The aircraft had departed Downham Market at 1058 on a routine Cross-Country training flight Less than 30 minutes later the aircraft suffered a catostrophic in-flight fire and crashed at high speed into Bicker Fen at 1120 All seven crew were killed, six of whom remain missing in the immediate area of crash site and are therefore commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey This site is an official war grave

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
