About the memorial: Proposed by our petitioner Charles Knott to provide and place a brass tablet on the south side of the chancel arch facing westward of the parish church of Billinghay to the memory of the late John Knott the son of our petitioner the said Charles Knott. That the said tablet is to be about one foot six inches by about 1 foot with the following inscription namely: "In loving memory of John, the dearly loved son of C and A Knott, killed in action at the Battle of Loos September 26 1915, aged 20 years" "Not my will, O Lord, but thine be done" Faculty Book 13, page 91, dated 30th May 1916. During the past week a brass tablet has been placed in St. Michael’s Church to the memory of Pte. John Knott (elder son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Knott) who fell at the battle of Loos in September last Lincolnshire Chronicle (Billinghay), 27 June 1916, page 2. 305 x 455 x 3 on 350 x 510 x 20mm

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
