About the memorial: Acton Cottage Hospital was founded by John Passmore Edwards and first opened 1898. The War Memorial Wing was opened in 1923 to the south of the original building, and was demolished c. 2001. The land is now the site of Acton Care Centre. The Passmore Edwards Memorial Garden is at the front of this building, facing Gunnersbury Lane. It contains the original stone signage from the War Memorial Wing, also a 1933 foundation stone from a later extension and at least one other stone. This garden now seems to serve as the main Acton war memorial, and hosts Remembrance Day services.
