About the memorial: A World War 1 soldier carved from an in-situ tree stump by local artist Andrew Frost to commemorate the WW1 armistice centenary and dedicated on 11 November 2018. There is also a carving of his kit-bag, helmet and rifle but this is removable and not on display at this visit. The 96 poppies currently surrounding the sculpture, one for each soldier from the village, were made by members of the Ashford Craft Group.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.
