About the memorial: A World War 1 soldier carved from an in-situ tree stump by local artist Andrew Frost to commemorate the WW1 armistice centenary and dedicated on 11.11.2018. There is also a carving of his kit-bag, helmet and rifle but this is removable and not on display at this visit. The 96 poppies currently surrounding the sculpture, one for each soldier from the village, were made by members of the Ashford Craft Group.
