About the memorial: P/O Streeter was shot down by friendly fire in 1943. The painting of him in the role of St George was presented to St Jude's by his family. St Jude's was demolished in 1971. The painting was purchased by a member of the public and kept in storage in an office until that office was redeveloped. Patricia Chapman then acquired it and researched it. In an article in 'This England' magazine of Spring 2000 she stated that she hoped it would be displayed in the nearby St Martin's Church but I can find no record of this. A full account of the wartime career of P/O Streeter and four other airmen may be found in her book entitled 'The Colours of the Day' published by Country Books.
