About the memorial: • In 1920 the Dowager Lady Leconfield of 12 Great Stanhope St., London, donated £1,000 towards the Town War Memorial fund in memory of her son Lt. Hon. William Reginald Wyndham. The Memorial Fund was being used to improve and extend the Slate Mill Recreation Ground as the Town War Memorial Ground, and Grantham Borough Council (as it was then) renamed the area Wyndham Park in his memory.
