About the memorial: Garden and plaque Rear Gunner of Lancaster JB474, DX-F, took off from East Kirby at 1857 for Stuttgart, outbound, and roughly 1 hour from Struttgart, all four enginrs started to burn. Course was established for Switzerland and satisfied he had crossed the frontier,P/O Atcheson ordered his crew to bail out. Sadly, only F?S Reece was able to comply before the Lancaster crassed at S aignelegier. Those who died rest in Vevey (St-Martins’s) Cemetery. Bomber Commands Losses, Volume 5, page 112.
