About the memorial: Brass plaque on wooden background. V1610 was shot down by an intruder while engaged on a night training sortie. She belonged to 42 OTU. 42 OTU was based at Ashbourne, Derbyshire and was responsible for training crews for service with 38 Group. John Edward Hutchinson, 1049565, Sergeant (Pilot), Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Son of Sidney Grafton Hutchinson and Mary Cameron Hutchinson, of Taddington, Derbyshire. Age 21. Stockport Crematorium, Cheshire Kenneth Rusby, 1532166, Sergeant (Nav.), Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Son of Harry and Margaret Shand Rusby, of Whitley Bay; husband of Janet Gibson Rusby, of Whitley Bay. Age 33. Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery, Northumberland. Anthony Arthur Whittome, 1324622, Sergeant (Bomb Aimer), Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Son of Arthur Frank and Hilda Mary Whittome, husband of Freda Whittome of Castor, Northamptonshire. Age 29. Thorney Cemetery, Cambridgeshire.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
