About the memorial: Wooden backed brass plaque on the Right wall of the Lawres Room (chapel) of the school, The plaque features the names of young men from the RAAF's 44 (Rhodesia), 49 and 619 squadrons who were based at the airfield between 1942 and 1944. In a moving ceremony members of the school council stood up and read out each of the 39 names of the men who died. The plaque was then unveiled by specially invited guest Keith Payne VC, a veteran of the Australian army who had flown to England at the request of headmaster Paul Strong. Mr Payne (74), joined the army in 1951, served in Korea and Malaya and won his Victoria Cross in 1969 after seeing action in Vietnam.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
