About the memorial:
Wooden backed brass plaque on the Right wall of the Lawres Room (chapel) of the school, The plaque features the names of young men from the RAAF's 44 (Rhodesia), 49 and 619 squadrons who were based at the airfield between 1942 and 1944.
In a moving ceremony members of the school council stood up and read out each of the 39 names of the men who died.
The plaque was then unveiled by specially invited guest Keith Payne VC, a veteran of the Australian army who had flown to England at the request of headmaster Paul Strong.
Mr Payne (74), joined the army in 1951, served in Korea and Malaya and won his Victoria Cross in 1969 after seeing action in Vietnam.
