About the memorial: Opened in 1934 as a cricket pavilion and fiction library, when the school was known as Macclesfield Grammar School; refurbished and reopened in 2001. Shelving originally installed for books was later used to display photos of school cricket teams. Now, in 2019, the building is scheduled for demolition as the school is moving to another location and the site is being sold off for housing.
