About the memorial: Dedicated in 2005 after a campaign by local ex-servicemen who felt that the existing civic memorial (a nearby stone of remembrance) was inadequate. A spire is on top of a plinth, made of dappled black and brown granie imported from India.

THIS MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED BY THE BOROUGH OF HARROW IN THE YEAR 2005/ IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF ALL THE CITIZENS OF THE BOROUGH AND FROM AROUND THE WORLD/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES SO THAT OTHERS MIGHT LIVE IN FREEDOM./ LET THOSE WHO COME AFTER ENSURE THAT THEY ARE NOT FORGOTTEN
