About the memorial: Middlesex Chronicle, July 25th 1914, p. 7: "The annual race for the coveted Thick Hailes Cup will start from Isleworth Ferry on Tuesday evening next at 7.15 p.m. This race is open to recognised rowing clubs of Brentford, and the trophy is a magnificent silver cup subscribed for by tradesmen and residents of Brentford, in memory of Privates William Thick and Hailes, who fell in the South African War." The current location and condition of the trophy is unknown. The pin is at Isleworth Ferry.
