About the memorial: Large portrait orientated, wall mounted tablet with a dual asymmetric scrolled pediment, including, in relief, a central shield incorporating the County arms inverted horseshoe, either side of which is a banner scroll, all mounted on a moulded top rail shelf. Incised inscription area is flanked by two fluted pilasters with capitals & square base plinths, set on a moulded lower base rail. Above inscription is a horizontal banded area with decorative foliate-like, sash-drapes in relief. c IWM Register

THIS TABLET was erected by public subscription / in the County of Rutland to the GLORY of GOD and / in memory of the following Rutland Men who fell / in the South African War. 1899 - 1902. / (NAMES) / "Greater love hath no man than this, that / a man lay down his life for his friends."
