About the memorial: Grave space with kerbs. As you face the memorial/grave. 1. is on the back left hand inside edge of the stone. 2 is on the right hand inside edge. 3. Is standing on the grave, left hand side in front of 1 but ½ way between the back and front edges. 4. Is on the right hand side of the grave in line with 3. 5. Is the headstone standing free centrally in the grave area, not attached to the surrounding edges. 6. is on the front inside edge facing Derek Holdich Smith’s name. 7. Is on the same edge between 6 and the end surround. Both sides of the edging and the front edge facing Desiree’s name are blank.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

In loving memory of / Frederick Holdich Smith / who died April 19th 1954 / aged 72 years / also his beloved wife / Mabel Beatrice / who died March 13th 1952 / aged 67 years / and their son/ Douglas Holdich Smith / who died July 20th 1995 / aged 81 years 6. E’en as he trod that day to God / So walked he from his birth / In nobleness and Gentleness / In honour and Mirth 7. The life a beautiful memory / His absence a silent grief.
