This field was the accident site on 24 February 1942 of a Royal Air Force Hawker Hurricane tahtw as flown by 87 Squadron Battle of Britain pilot Flight Lieutenant Geoffrey Roscoe aged 25, who was fatally injured in the incident. Never in the filed of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. This plaque was presented by the Battle of Britain Historical Society.
