To the Glory of God/and in memory of/LIEUTENANT JOHN BRUMWELL,/who was born 1785/at Warden Hill in the Parish of Stanhope/serving with/his Regiment - the 43rd Light Infantry,/in the Peninsular War./He fought for his Country and the Liberties of Europe/at “Busaco” “Fuentes de Onoro”/and/volunteering for the “Forlorn Hope”/at the storming of Ciudad Rodrigo, Jan. 19th 1812,/Was mortally wounded in sight of victory,/And expired in the prime of life./A sacrifice to duty./Jan. 27th 1812.
