About the memorial:
To provide and place on the wall of the North West corner of the Nave a War Memorial in Oak about 6’ 9” by about 5’ 7” in size, with the following inscription thereon, namely: -
Seal affixed 31st January 1950.

97 Sqn Lancaster ND415 OF-B had departed Coningsby at 2237 on 23/05/44 for Ops Braunschweig
On its return and whilst making its approach to land it suffered a Mid Air Collision with another aircraft and crashed close to the village church with the loss of all seven crew. Four have no known grave and are therefore commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey.
The second aircraft 57 Sqn Lancaster, LL967 DX-? although badly damaged, made a safe emergency landing at East Kirkby
