About the memorial: Details from an Article in the Wigan Observer for 13 July 1920. A framed illuminated scroll, executed by T Mawdesley of Pemberton, and installed in the Lodge Room at the Wheatsheaf Hotel on the corner of Queen Street with Wallgate, Wigan town centre. Design: the emblem of the Order of Druids, and each branch of HM Forces represented in a pictorial manner. Photographs of all who lost their lives, plus the names of all who served. Apart from the six killed, a couple who were killed in a Zeppelin Raid on 12 April 1918 may also have been commemorated.
