About the memorial: Proposed by our petitioner John Henry Dean, of Heath Hose, Nocton to provide and place gates at the entrance to the porch of the Parish Church of Metheringham in lieu of the gates which became broken and dilapidated. That the proposed gates are to be of open ironwork from the ground to the top of the porch, wire netting on each gate to keep the birds out of the church. Also proposed to place on the west wall of the poach a stone tablet about one foot two inches by about two feet four inches in size with the following inscription thereon namely: “The gates to this porch are given in reverence to God and in memory of John Henry Ellis Dean, M.C. and bar, Captain, ‘B’ Batt. Cheshire Regt., who was killed between Reims and Soissons, 27 May 1918, aged 23.” That the erection of gates and tablet were approved by the P.C.C. on 12th February 1924.
