About the memorial: A plaque on the Church Organ remembers F/L A.W. Bevan DFC KIA 20/06/42 He was Pilot of 7 Sqn Stirling W7472 MG-C that had departed Oakington at 2325 for Ops Emden. It was intercepted over the North Sea, W of Bergen aan Zee by a Luftwaffe Night Fighter captained by Oblt Rudolph Sigmund (Stab II/NJG2) and shot down for his 2nd Abschusse at 0205 The aircraft crashed into the North Sea, 40km W of Bergen-aan-see, Holland at 0205. Four of the crew, including F/L Bevan DFC are buried in the Netherlands. All the remaining crew have no known grave and are therefore commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey.
