TO THE GLORY OF GOD IN MEMORY OF THE FOLLOWING DESCENDANTS OF SIR JOHN DE PHILIPOT KT OF KENT LORD MAYOR OF LONDON 1378 DIED 1384 THIS WINDOW IS DEDICATED IN 1917 BY ALICE PHILPOT WIDOW OF MAJOR PHILIP PHILPOT JOHN PHILPOT ARCHDEACON OF WINCHESTER THIRD SON OF SIR PETER PHILPOT KT BORN AT COMPTON HAMPSHIRE 1516 SCHOLAR OF WINCHESTER COLLEGE 1526 FELLOW OF NEW COLLEGE OXFORD 1534 - 1541 SUFFERED MARTYRDOM AT SMITHFIELD 18TH DECEMBER 1555 FOR DEFENDING THE PRINCIPLES OF THE REFORMATION GENERAL PHILIP PHILPOT COLONEL-IN-CHIEF 11TH HUSSARS IN 1839 SUBSEQUENTLY OF 8TH HUSSARS DIED IN KENSINGTON 1843 AGED 73 HIS ONLY SON MAJOR PHILIP PHILPOT OF THE 74TH HIGHS 11TH AND 28TH REGIMENTS WAS ACCIDENTALLY DROWNED FISHING THE USK RIVER CRICKHOWELL BRECONSHIRE 5TH JULY 1888 AGED 56 LEAVING ONE CHILD FREDK GERALD HARINGTON PHILPOT BORN 18TH MARCH 1882 EDUCATED AT WINCHESTER COLLEGE AND SANDHURST LIEUT.
