About the memorial: Memorial plaque in the village church remembers all those lost in two aircraft crashes in the local area on 19/04/44 115 Sqn Lancaster’s were on return to base ay Witchford from Ops Rouen when Luftwaffe Me 410 Intruder aircraft pounced on two of the aircraft. Lancaster LL667 KO-H was intercepted and shot down and crashed near Common Farm, Witchford at 0210, with the loss of all crew. Just over half an hour later, 115 Squadron Lancaster LL867 A4-J was also intercepted and shot down. This aircraft crashed near Ely at 0248, also with the loss of all crew Two additional memorials to two crew members of Lancaster LL667 KO-H also exist in Kendal and Gosforth

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
