About the memorial: In the carpark of Creswell Crags Visitors Centre is a memorial to the crew of 86 OTU Wellington HE821 that crashed close to this site on 5 August 1944. The aircraft had departed Gamston at 1355 for a routine X-C NAVEX. During the later flight the Starboard Engine failed, following fuel starvation. The Pilot attempted to make a forced landing but lost control, entered a flat spin and crashed close to Hennymore Farm, near Creswell at 2010 All the crew were killed
