About the memorial: On the external wall of the Village Hall is a plaque that remembers the crew of 158 Sqn Halifax LK839 NP-S that crashed close to this site on the night of 16-17/08/44 The aircraft had departed Lissett at 2159 for Ops Kiel. On return the aircraft crashed at Oak Tree Farm, Foston on the Wolds at 0214. Four of the crew were killed instantly, the two Air Gunners died shortly afterwards whilst the Pilot died the following day
