About the memorial: Part of the postal worker's memorial (IWM Register reference 44735) was a time capsule, which was compiled in 1921, to commemorate all 240 workers who served (of which 35 paid the supreme sacrifice). This was with that memorial, but was opened 93 years later (on 4th August 2014), on the 100th anniversary of the start of the war. The Lord Provost and staff from Royal Mail and the Post Office opened the shrine to discover letters to themselves by their equivalents from the past. Many documents and photographs were tightly packed inside. The shrine is now at the McManus museum.
