About the memorial: Memorial tablet in the village church remembers S/L S.D. Jones DFC KIA 30-31/03/44 He was Pilot of 158 Sqn Halifax HX349 NP-G that had departed Lissett at 2155 for Ops Nuremburg. Whilst on the outbound leg, it was engaged, hit and shot down by Flak The aircraft crashed at Hachenburg, 12km NW of Westerburg, Germany. The Pilot and Mid Upper Gunner were both killed, however the remaining five crew bailed out to become POW's
