About the memorial: Memorial plaque remembers those killed in the crash of 49 Sqn Lancaster PB432 EA-O on 26/11/44 It had departed nearby Fulbeck at 2341 for Ops Munich. For unknown reasons, the aircraft crashed three minutes later at 2344. Two of the seven crew were killed but miraculously the 4000lb "Cookie" had been jettisoned at the last minute and had rolled clear unarmed. Despite the full fuel and Bomb load, there were no losses on the ground.
