About the memorial:
Plaque about 12inches by 8inches on wood backing affixed to a stone about 18 inches high, the whole was enclosed by chicken wire in 2015,in farmland
The aircraft was returning to RAF Bottesford from a raid on Turin with significant damage sustained from Anti-Aircraft Fire over the target.
The Pilot waited until the last possible moment in order to lower the undercarriage.
Sadly as he did so, the aircraft suffered in-flight structural failure, broke up and crashed one mile short of the runway. All the crew were killed
