About the memorial: On the village green is a monument and plaques that remembers those lost in two local aircraft crashes during WWII 1661 HCU Stirling EH940 had departed Winthorpe for a Pilot’s 1st Solo on 21/06/44 Whilst flying at 1800ft, the aircraft suffered an in-flight engine fire. The aircraft dived and banked before it crashed at Park Farm, Kettlethorpe at 1738 Five of the crew were killed, three were injured 103 Sqn Lancaster LM292 PM-K 08/08/44 had departed Elsham Wolds at 2118 for Ops Fontenay on 08/08/44 On the homeward leg, an engine caught fire and the aircraft began difficult to control. The aircraft was partially abandoned before it crashed with the loss of two of its seven-man crew Stone cairn surmounted by a propeller blade and reduction gear, with plaques on opposing sides unveiled on the 16th July 1994, erected on the Village green by the side of the A1133 and a unclassified road. 2845 x 1000 x 1000mm with 310 x 610 plaques Air Force Memorials of Lincolnshire C.J.A. Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
