About the memorial: Adjacent to the disused RAF Caistor airfield, the plaque remembers the crew of 1 LFS Lancaster R5672 killed when their aircraft crashed near this site on 08/04/44 The aircraft clipped trees on the boundary of RAF Caistor airfield and crashed in flames. The highly decorated and experienced Pilot was the CO of 1LFS based at nearby RAF Hemswell. Amongst those passengers killed was a female ATA pilot and several members of ground staff who it is believed had taken the opportunity for an Air Experience Flight albeit with tragic results
