About the memorial: An engraved Prayer Bookcase in the village church remembers Sgt J.R. Grantham was Rear Gunner on 218 Sqn Stirling EF259 HA-G that had departed Woolfox Lodge at 2217 on 01/05/44 for Ops Chambly. This is possibly the aircraft that was intercepted 18km SW of Poix at 3200M by a Night-Fighter captained by Oblt Walter Preus (VII/NJG1) and shot down for his 2nd Abschusse. The aircraft crashed at la Houssaye, France at 0047. Four of the crew Evaded, the other four were killed.
