About the memorial: A dark blue, leather covered, Book of Remembrance with gilt decoration and wording on the cover. Inside it features photographs and text about the soldiers who served and died from the village in WW1. The book is held in a glass top wooden display cabinet.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

SOLDIERS OF THE GREAT WAR - UPWOOD & THE RAVELEYS/ During the Great War of 1914-1918, soldiers from the parish of Upwood cum Raveley/ sent home photographs of themselves. These were collected by the vicar, Revd./ Kitchener, and put into an album in which most of the men were identified. The/ original album was lost for many years and was only discovered in the 1990's. This/ replica album contains a set of copy photographs of men who served in the armed/ forces during the First World War taken from the original album. Their names and/ units were inscribed around the photograph in the original album and this information/ has been expanded to include, wherever possible, biographical and military history. In/ some cases, little or no information has been located yet.
