About the memorial: Memorial to 2nd Lieutenant James Conroy Fair, 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards. Educated at Christs College, Cambridge. He was killed in action at Loos, France when he was shot by a German sniper while bringing in a wounded man. He is also commemorated on Panels 7 and 8 of the Loos Memorial, France. Also commemorates his brother 2LT George Patrick Conroy Fair, 1st Battalion the Somerset Light Infantry, killed in action 1 Jul 1916 at the battle of the Somme aged 20 years.
