About the memorial: Memorial to Lt Acland Douglas Thompson, King's African Rifles, late King's Dragoon Guards. Born in in Murree, Rawlipindi, Punjab, Pakistan. Educated Wellington College and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned into the King’s 1st Dragoon Guards. Killed in action at Mwaika Hill, German East Africa aged 27 years. Lt G E H Reid (4KAR) and Lt Alexander Gordon Sale (3KAR) were killed in the same action and the three officers are buried together in Dar Es Salaam War Cemetery, Tanzania.
