About the memorial: Plaque inside the front door of the Hall. Opened Date: 2 October 1927 by The RIGHT HONOURABLE THE EARL OF STRATHMORE; Mr Langlands (Architect) Mr Nicoll (Mason); Walker and Sons (Joiner); Fenwick (Plumber); Nevay (Plasterer); Hogg (Slater); Donald and Smith (Glazier); J Birrel (Painter). The cost was £3,604. The stone for the hall was the gift of the Nairn family, the quarrymasters. Some building costs still needed to be settled after the opening of the hall. £112 was received from the Monikie and District War Relief Fund which was wound up in March 1930 and £147 was given by the Primrose League. The remainder was raised through a Sale of Work in October 1930. 1939-1945: The hall was requisitioned for military use the duration of the war. Post WW2: Repairs had to be made to the hall as a result of damage done during its requisition period. The hall was threatened with closure in 2012 but was saved.
