About the memorial: Wednesday last was a memorable day in the history of Bourne, when the consummation of the Peace Memorial was witnessed, together with the opening ceremonial in connection with the extension of the Hospital. The enlargement of the premises consists of two new wards capable of accommodating four beds each. The Men’s Ward (on the ground floor) is designated the “Peace Memorial Ward,” and over the door to the outside entrance is the following inscription, in carved and gilded letters : - “Erected 1920. In grateful remembrance of those who gave their lives in the Great War, 1914 – 1918.” Above the Men’s Ward is the new Women’s Ward, named the “Ingle Ward,” in recognition by the Trustees of the late Mr. Ingle allocating £1,000 of that gentleman’s estate to the Hospital The Butterfield Hospital is now known as the Butterfield Day Centre
