About the memorial: Memorial to Major Hardinge Monteith Hogg, 32nd Lancers. Son of Major Hardinge Hogg (late Indian Cavalry), of 96 York Mansions, Battersea, London, and the late Ellen Cecilia Hogg. Educated at Bedford Grammar School and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned into the South Lancashire Regiment. Transferred into the 32nd Lancers. Served in India and Burma before WW1. Husband of Violet Hogg (nee Aplen, now Mrs. Alexander). Married in Burma on 9 Dec 1914. Killed in action in a cavalry charge at Samara, Mesopotamia aged 34 years. Also commemorated on Panels 44 and 65 of the Basra Memorial, Iraq.
