About the memorial: To provide and place on the south wall of the South Aisle of the Parish Church of Branston, a memorial tablet of Yorkshire stone about six feet by about three feet in size, with the following inscription thereon, namely: Approved At A Meeting Of The P.C.C. On The 21st August 1941. Faculty Book 19, Page 341, dated 16th October 1941.

Coldstream Guards Born 1st September 1865 Died 12th July 1912 This Tablet Was Erected By Their Children Also In Memory Of Robert Eustace Abel Smith Their Youngest Son Captain, Grenadier Guards Age 31, Killed In Action In Flanders During The Retreat To Dunkirk On The 21st May 1940
