About the memorial: Small 'Joshua' window, a memorial provided by the friends of a local soldier, Serjeant W Leaning, who used to attend and support the abbey on many occasions. In 1885 Serjeant Leaning was serving in the Coldstream Guards in the first Egyptian Campaign. While escorting a convoy of wounded men, his unit was attacked and Sjt Leaning was shot in the leg by a bullet. Despite being operated on, he contracted tetanus and died.
