About the memorial: This memorial may be unique as it remembers both British and German casualties. The result of German bombing of Duff House which was then a Prisoner of War camp on 22nd July 1940. The German casualties were part of the 47 crew of U-26 which had been sunk on 1st July 1940. The British casualties were members of the guard detachment The Friends of Duff House and Historic Environment Scotland (HES) worked together to create this lasting memorial for those who died. The dedication service was on July 22 2018– exactly 78 years to the day since the raid.
