About the memorial: Grey vertical rectangular checked top stone with checked top decoration below paralleling stone top. Faded black lead lettering. Stone stands on plain horizontal rectangular grey base.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

In / Loving Memory / Of / Lizzie Emilie White, / 1867 – 1952 / Also Of Her Beloved Son (Jim), / 5th Lincs Regt / Reported Missing July 1917, / Aged 21 Years. / Reunited The name ‘Jim’ appears to be nickname used by family only, given name would appear to be Herbert White. Lizzie Emilie White with husband Albert Edward White is present Brigg 1911 census, together with son Herbert White (born c1895, Collingham Notts).

Lance Sergeant 240584 Herbert White 5th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment killed in action 5th July 1917 and commemorated on Arras Memorial, Bay 3 and 4. Enlisted Grimsby and resident Stamford, Lincs., also commemorated Grimsby St. James, Grimsby St James Kalendar, Brigg St John Roll of Honour and Triptych, Brigg War Memorial
