About the memorial: Memorial to Lieutenant Spencer Julian Wilfred Railston, 18th King George's Own Lancers. Son of Colonel Henry Edward Railston (late The Cameronians), and Magdalen Railston (daughter of the Rev Charles Edward Oakley) of Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire. Educated at St Lawrence College, Ramsgate, Kent and Radley College. Trained at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned on 17 Aug 1907 into the Indian Army. Attached to the Cameronians for his first year. Killed in action when attached to the 4th Dragoon Guards (Royal Irish) whilst trying to save a wounded woman in Messines village, Belgium aged 25 years.
