About the memorial: Infilled silhouette of a horse with the head bowed fixed with silver bolts to the exterior brick wall of the public house. The base of the sculpture runs along a bar with a row of barbed wire between the horse's hooves. A purple poppy is on the neck of the horse. The dedicative plaque sits just above the sculpture. A light box that colours the emblem a shade of either purple of red is fitted, functioning best with dark light of an evening.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

IT PAYS HOMAGE, NOT ONLY TO THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO GAVE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE FOR OUR FREEDOM, BUT ALSO, OVER 8 MILLION FORGOTTEN LIVES OF THE HORSES, MULES AND DONKEYS THAT WENT, UNKNOWINGLY AND WITHOUT OBJECTION, TO SUPPORT OUR FORECES IN A TIME OF NEED./ THIS SILHOUETTE IS A REPRESENTATION OF THE FIRST NATIONAL MONUMENT DEDICATED TO THE HORSES OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR, WHICH STANDS IN ASCOT./ THE PURPLE POPPY MOTIF IS IN SUPPORT OF THE MILITARY AND EQUINE CHARITIES SUPPORTED BY THE MEMORIAL APPEAL./ LEST WE FORGET/ THANKS MUST BE GIVEN TO THE FRIENDS OF THE PLOUGH PH FOR THEIR HELP IN PLACING THE SILHOUETTE.
