About the memorial: Memorial to Captain Frank Maturin Davenport, 1st Battalion the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Son of Alfred Davenport (solicitor) and Sophie Charlotte Davenport (daughter of W. H. Maturin C.B.) of 43 Evelyn-gardens, Chelsea, London. Educated at Rugby school. Trained at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned into the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in Feb 1909. Served with his regiment in Burmah and India. In Nov 1914 he deployed with the Indian Expeditionary Force to Mesopotamia. Killed in action at Ctesiphon, Mesopotamia (35km SE of Baghdad) aged 27 years. Also commemorated on Panels 26 and 63 of the Basra memorial, Iraq.
